Summer School 2018

The start of the summer holidays saw a number of inspirational workshops taking place here at Parmiter’s.  Students starting in Year 7 made new friends and showed a lot of creativity and talent, became more familiar with the school and got to know some of the teachers.  Look out for information on next year’s summer school and save the first week of the summer holidays if you want to take part in this fun packed week of activities.

The workshops ranged from writing and performing a Play in a Day, exploring Life in Space, learning about mythical gods and a comic workshop for Marvel fans.

Here is an account from Leah, our Year 9 summer school reporter, on some of the other week’s events:

This week at Parmiter’s School students have been found doing incredible things.  We were told that a certain teamwork group were seen playing an unbeatable game of Aye Aye Captain!  Later in the day one of our reporters saw the group doing an amazing 3 legged race!  The students raced back and forth and even scored goals together.

But as we travelled further on into the world of fashion and design, we found ourselves face to face with remarkable creators.  Students were putting their minds to use and making amazing quilts, t-shirts and textile pictures.  I wonder what the final outcome will look like?

Another reporter saw some budding scientists trying to find a way to land a Mars Lander on Mars.  They worked together as a team but the most incredible thing was their hard work and dedication to the task.  They had a practice test, where they used an egg to see if it would crack, the results were amazing.  Most of the products worked and only a few eggs were cracked.

We then saw what the students at the World Cup of Sport were enjoying.  Tennis balls, footballs and ping-pong balls were flying around the pitch.  Boys and girls alike were seen having competitive fun together under the sun.

As our reporters made their way back into the world of Design and Technology we stumbled upon a spectacular workshop group making a bunch of cool things.  For example, some were making trinket boxes in the shape of a heart and some were making elastic cars!  Other students were making a Marbles Noughts and Crosses board

Thank you to everyone involved and we’re looking forward to the next one.
