Sixth Formers set standards for the remainder of the School and in many respects are seen as role models by junior students. Parmiter's has a Sixth Form of approximately 360 students, including some who join Parmiter's from other schools for their A levels.
Sixth Formers are expected to play a positive and influential role. Their importance is reflected in their own purpose-built accommodation, Kester Ball House, which includes a Sixth Form Learning Resources Centre and a large conference/common room area. The uniform dress, which is smart and businesslike, allows a degree of flexibility within a range of specified colours. House and Prefectorial systems provide opportunities to assume leadership roles.
The curriculum and beyond
Twenty-nine courses are currently offered at A level (see separate page). Additionally, all students have the opportunity to take the Extended Project Qualification and a small number each year take part in the Engineering Education Scheme. All students take part in the Games or the Community Service Programme, operated both in School and off-site at local institutions and many join Sustain, our school-based 'green' project. Visiting speakers contribute to the Liberal Studies course.
A wide range of extra-curricular opportunities is available, including Young Enterprise Groups, exchanges with two public schools (Eton and Sherborne), language exchanges, school journeys, visits and an extensive range of activities in Music, Drama and Sport. The majority of Sixth Formers progress to Higher Education. A co-ordinated programme of consultation, advice and visits culminates in applications to a wide range of courses in almost all universities, including a number each year to Oxford and Cambridge, medical, dental and veterinary schools.
