Our aim is to develop more curious, creative, resilient and independent learners who have a sense of self and community; whilst placing the core values of collaboration, creativity and positive relationships at the centre of the Faculty.

As a Humanities Faculty, we have the following aims and ambitions for all our students:

• To cultivate a love of the study of History, Philosophy, Religion and Ethics and Personal Development.
• To foster respect for others and to embrace different cultures, religions and beliefs.
• To enable critical and ethical reasoning about personal beliefs and the beliefs and practices of world religions.
• To embed a culture of responsibility for communities informed by the study of History and Religion.
• To understand how religions are lived and practised in the world and their sources of wisdom.
• To equip students with a coherent, chronological narrative of British, local and world history.
• To understand key historical concepts: continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance.
• To be proficient with methods of historical enquiry, including how evidence is used rigorously to make historical claims, and to understand how and why contrasting interpretations of the past have been constructed.

Our primary aim as a school and Faculty is for each Parmiterian to aspire to find the path that best suits the individual, having developed the discipline, moral character and resilience to become a considerate and responsible member of society. 

In addition to the curriculum detailed in the documents below, there are a wide range of extra-curricular societies supported by the Humanities faculty.  These include; Feminist Society, Amnesty International, Philosophy Society and Debating Society. Societies are predominantly run for the students by the students with the guidance of a member of staff attached to the faculty.  The benefits of these peer led groups include; helping to build student leadership and voice throughout the school, as well as enshrining Fundamental British Values through discussions on mutual respect and equality.  

Students in all key stages are offered the opportunity to go on a wide range of Humanities trips.  The trips to places of Historical and Religious importance allow students to; experience different cultures, respect differences, understand varying perspectives, connect the past to the present day, gain an insight into the wider world around them and develop their social skills and confidence.
