Sixth Form Open Evening

Our Sixth Form Open Evening will be held on Thursday 24 October 2019 from 6pm to 9pm.  The  Headmaster will speak at 6.30pm and 7.30pm in the School Hall.   The evening is open to external as well as our own Year 11 students.  There is no need to register to attend.  Applications will be online and details of this will be available on the website by 24 October.

Admissions Policy for Sixth Form Entry in September 2020.

Applications are welcome from external students.  In addition to the many Parmiterians who continue their journey into our exceptional Sixth Form, we also welcome many new students who join the school to undertake their A Level studies.

A Level courses offered for September 2020 are detailed here.

Our Application Process

All students (both internal and external) need to achieve a minimum of 33 points in their six best full-course GCSE results to qualify for a place in the Sixth Form at Parmiter’s. Students then need to meet the entry requirements for each A Level subject they wish to study.  We understand that the students may change their minds on which subjects they wish to study between declaring an interest and results day; students will be able to change their subject choices as long as they fit with the options blocks and provided there is space on the course.

The process starts with the Sixth Form Open Evening on 24 October, providing an opportunity to speak to departments and explore both the topics covered in various subjects and the experiences of current students.

Our current Year 11 students will be asked to give details of the subjects they wish to study to A Level.   Their choices will be discussed with them and advice and guidance offered as appropriate.

Students from other schools wishing to apply to Parmiter's Sixth Form must complete this online application form (available from 25 October 2019).

Once we have received the application form we will ask each student’s current school for GCSE predictions. We then make offers based on these predictions and the availability of our courses. We make around 160 offers each year with the aim to recruit about 50 students into our Sixth Form.

For transfer to Sixth Form study, the student does not have to make a commitment to join Parmiter’s until after the GCSE results are known. If an offer is made, we will invite the student to visit the school during one afternoon between February and April for a tour with current Sixth Formers and a meeting where Sixth Form life and study at Parmiter’s can be discussed further.

In June there is an Induction Day for all Parmiter’s Year 11 students and external students with offers. This is a great opportunity for students to meet and mix and get a feel for the Sixth Form and the subjects they wish to study.   At this event, students will be made aware of the Summer Tasks to undertake for each subject, to ensure they are prepared for their A Level study. For students studying Mathematics and/or Further Mathematics there will be additional information regarding the Mathematics Entrance Test, which takes place prior to the start of the Autumn Term.

Once enrolled, we run a programme of induction in September for all new Year 12s to ensure they feel fully integrated into the Sixth Form at Parmiter’s.
